What is WMM (Wi-Fi Multimedia) and should I have it on my router?


Problems viewing streaming video or other types of media can be one of the most annoying things that can happen while surfing the Internet.

If your network may have problems streaming video for many reasons, many wireless routers have a simple solution that can help solve the problem. This is a WMM installation on your router.

Do I need to enable or disable WMM on my router?

This of course depends on your specific situation. If you normally never have problems with video buffering or phone calls, just continue as usual.

If you are experiencing these problems, it is certainly useful to enable WMM if your router offers this option and check to see if the problem is affected in any way. If so, great!

It is worth noting that WMM certainly does not guarantee that all your threading issues will be resolved, as your network may have issues for various reasons. You can do this:

  • High package loss

In addition, the fact that WMM gives priority to certain types of transmission over others means that during your streaming and VoIP, if you enable this setting, other Internet users may experience a loss of performance.
